On December 7, the Hotel Indigo St. Petersburg-Tchaikovskogo and the St. Petersburg International Festival of Festivals Film Festival invited their partners and friends to a private film screening, as part of the Hotel Indigo Cinema Club.
On this occasion, we treated our guests to a private screening of a very unusual film, Carlos Saura’s Argentina (Zonda: folclore argentino). The prominent Spanish filmmaker created a fascinating film-performance, which received a very warm welcome at the International Film Festival in Venice where it enjoyed its world premiere earlier in 2015.
Film critics welcomed the film with praise, and they compared Saura’s work with an emotional and highly inspired declaration of love. Carlos Saura invested a lot of time and effort into his exploration of Argentinian diverse culture and its musical traditions. In his film, the director put together an exciting series of choreographic and musical episodes performed by some of Argentina’s finest actors, singers and dancers. The film is made in the director’s notable style, which is familiar to the spectators from Saura’s other works, such as «Tango», «Flamenco, Flamenco» and «Fados».
The evening was attended by special guests, including actors who perform in Yury Yadrovsky’s new staging «Zoyka’s Apartment», which is loosely based on Mikhail Bulgakov’s work of the same name. The production has recently premiered at the Baltiisky Dom Theater-Festival. The actors told the evening’s participants about the new production, and then we also held a raffle draw, where the prizes included tickets to the staging.
