Hotel Indigo St. Petersburg-Tchaikovskogo will support the Russian premiere of the internationally successful Broadway musical “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” with lyrics by Tim Rice and music by Andrew Lloyd Webber, the authors of such globally successful musicals as Cats and the Phantom of the Opera and the rock opera “Jesus Christ Superstar”. Staged by the St. Petersburg musical theater Karambol, the production will see its Russian premiere on October 30 and 31 and November 1 at the Gorky Palace of Culture. The premiere is produced in agreement with the UK company “Really Useful Group”.
The story is based on the “coat of many colours” story of Joseph from the Bible’s Book of Genesis. When the show received its world premiere in 1968, it became the first Lloyd Webber and Rice musical to be performed publicly. In the musical, Andrew Lloyd Webber masterfully fuses different genres and styles, from popular tunes from 1960-s to country songs to rock-n-roll and romances. The show’s family-friendly storyline, universal themes and catchy music have resulted in numerous productions of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
The St. Petersburg musical theater Karambol, which celebrates its 25th birthday this year, has won a number of prestigious professional awards, including the prestigious Golden mask prize, Russia’s highest theatrical award.
