
On March 10, 2016 Hotel Indigo St. Petersburg-Tchaikovskogo and the St. Petersburg International Festival of Festivals Film Festival invited their partners and friends to a private screening as part of the Hotel Indigo Cinema Club.
We treated our guests to a closed screening of Terence Davies’s most recent premiere, the historical drama «Sunset Song» loosely based on Lewis Grassic Gibbon’s classic Scottish novel.
«Sunset Song» is a stern family saga, that revolves around the life story of Chris Guthrie (Agyness Deyn), the young daughter of a tyrannical farmer (Peter Mullan) and humble mother (Daniela Nardini), who committs suicide. Chris survives endless hardships, including the death of her husband, an army deserter, during the First World War.
The film enjoyed its world premiere at the International Film Festival in Toronto, where it was shown at the Special Screenings section. «Sunset Song» received the Online Film Critics Society Awards-2015 as the best foreign film.
The evening was attended by the talented and aspiring stage director Mikhail Patlasov, the winner of the Golden Mask theater prize, Russia’s highest theatrical award. Mikhail spoke to the evening’s participants about his extraordinary new work, «The Untouchable» – a thrilling documentary production dedicated to life stories of city’s homeless people, who themsevles star in the show. We held an improvised lottery draw where the prizes included tickets to the performance.
